Here’s the backstory on some of our most recent edits. In case you also like to read.

THE NATURE CONSERVANCY - KURT’S STORY

Kurt Martin has been fishing the waters off Cape Cod for over thirty years. He’s also kept a daily log, documenting each day’s conditions and catch. If anyone can attest that climate change is real, that oceans are warming and fish populations are migrating, it’s him. This poses a threat not only to a fisherman’s livelihood and fishing economies, but also to what ends up on your plate and the ocean’s ecosystem.

We love to collaborate with Shed Light Creative on amazing projects centered around climate change. And when the client is one doing as much good as The Nature Conservancy is, it becomes an honor. We cut two :90 edits with slightly different messaging as well as two :15 teasers for social, directing viewers to a landing page that shares Kurt’s story and illuminates TNC’s role working with fisherman like him.

BURTON - SLASH N’ BERM

Continuing our sports themed run here with our friends at Chop Shop we’re bringing it back to colder months with a fun edit we did for Burton Snowboards recapping their annual Slash n’ Berm event. The event combines creative obstacles on a slalom style course, with terrain for both young shredders and professionals. Hosted at Vermont’s Killington Mountain with additional sponsorship from Anon Optics, Darkside Snowboard Shop and Stihl Chainsaws. Looks like everyone had a great time, especially the chainsaw artist!

Projects these days range in scope. Sure some take weeks of planning, scouting and pre-production with a large crew to get it done. But sometimes it’s effective to piggy back off an event, send a camera or two and see what you can capture. It’s a fun challenge to cut together an entertaining edit to share with event participants and brand followers alike on all your platforms.

DISPATCHES - BRIAN LOPES EP. 4

In this final episode of Dispatches, produced by Chop Shop for Outside TV, we learn what it takes to build these incredible trails. Berms, jumps, and technical obstacles are created by skilled craftsmen and craftswomen out of stone, dirt, wood and metal. This is art, created at blazing speed. Seems the people of Bentonville don’t do anything slow. On average two miles of trail are being built each week. EACH WEEK! For locals that keeps things fresh and for visitors it means you’ll never do the same ride twice.

Telling the stories of other creative people is always a joy. It is a amazing that these trail builders can take a stretch of woods, gather raw materials, and pair their creative eye with some tools and know-how to craft an experience for their friends and neighbors. Sounds like video editing actually. Nothing is in it’s place to start, but cut by cut, we create something for others to experience. We usually don’t get as sweaty though.

DISPATCHES - BRIAN LOPES EP. 3

In episode 3 of of this 4 part series on Dispatches, produced by Chop Shop for Outside TV, we check out all that Bentonville, Arkansas has to offer on and off the bike. From Walton’s Five and Dime (the original Walmart) to restaurants, coffee shops, and art museums. The trail system generates $137M in economic impact for the area each year. Wow. No wonder they are working hard with other local and state organizations to build more trails.

Working with organized, thoughtful producers makes our job so much simpler. The weekend began with no concrete plan in mind, but producers and talent worked together to uncover four storylines as the weekend progressed. This kind of thought and attention to detail made our edit process, especially initial story edits, move quickly, increasing the amount of time we have to be as creative as possible, a win for everyone involved.

DISPATCHES - BRIAN LOPES EP. 2

In episode 2 of of this 4 part series on Dispatches, produced by Chop Shop for Outside TV, we dive into the best aspect of cycling: community building. From weekly group rides to in-school bike programs to newly formed women’s rides, local and national cycling organizations have helped to bring this community together in a big way. A tight-knit community is being built as fast as the trails are in Bentonville, all centered around being this healthy, sustainable, and inclusive sport.

We love any opportunity to spread a message of positivity and good while we work. Being able to craft this story about this unique community of cycling enthusiasts definitely scratched that itch for us. Whether it’s voting rights, social equality or community building, these are stories we love to tell.

DISPATCHES - BRIAN LOPES EP. 1

Our friends at Chop Shop got together with Outside TV to produce a 4-part series for their show Dispatches featuring 4-time UCI Mountain Bike World Champion Brian Lopes about the insane trail system surrounding Bentonville, Arkansas, famously known as the birthplace of Walmart. In episode 1 Brian introduces us to his all-star crew including supercrosser Jeremy McGrath, mountain bikers Steve Peat and Hans Rey, kayaker Nick Troutman and BMXer Hucker Clark, among others, to see all that Bentonville has to offer on and off the bike.

At Silo Post we love these projects. All-star athletes, having a great time, with a couple cameras filming the whole time. Finding the narratives that highlight the athletes and the location is a challenge we gladly accept. Plus having insane gravity-defying shots to hold it all together is like having our cake and eating it too. Put your helmet on, you’ll want to go for a ride after each of these episodes.

THE FIFTY - MT. SHUKSAN

Chop Shop teamed up with Summit Lunch Productions to edit The Fifty, a web docuseries capturing professional skier Cody Townsend’s attempt to ski the US’s fifty most iconic (and burly) lines. Given our experience working for BTBtv cutting two seasons of Behind The Barriers, which documented 4-time US National Cyclocross Men’s Champion Jeremy Powers during his training and racing and our two years editing for Texas Crew’s production of NBC Sports Ironman Triathlon World Championships in Kona, HI we were a natural fit for this project. 583,916 views and counting.

Did I mention having a national sports Emmy nomination on the resume thanks to the 2013 Ironman show? True story.
